Our Exterior Prep Process
- Pressure washing — we wash the entire exterior to remove dirt, mildew, and chalky residue so the new coating bonds to a clean surface
- Scraping and sanding — loose and failing paint is scraped off and edges are feathered, never just painted over
- Priming — bare wood and problem areas are primed; on weathered or previously peeling surfaces we use Sherwin-Williams PrimeRx Peel Bonding Primer, a high-build bonding primer that seals and evens out less-than-perfect surfaces for a smoother, longer-lasting finish
- Caulking with quality elastomeric caulk — every gap, seam, and joint is sealed before painting
Why Caulking Matters So Much
Caulking is the part of an exterior paint job you’ll never see — and the part that protects everything else. Every unsealed gap around siding, trim, windows, and doors is a path for Oregon rain to get behind your paint and into your walls, where it causes peeling, rot, and expensive damage. We use quality elastomeric caulking because it stays flexible as your home expands and contracts through the seasons, keeping those joints sealed instead of cracking open in a year or two. It’s slower than the way some crews do it. It’s also the difference between a paint job that protects your home and one that just changes its color.

For the topcoat, we’re proud to offer Sherwin-Williams Emerald Rain Refresh — an ultra-durable exterior acrylic with Self-Cleaning Technology. It’s formulated so dirt washes away on contact with rain, keeping your home looking freshly painted with minimal maintenance, and it provides excellent UV and weather protection against blistering and peeling. In a climate with as much rain as ours, a finish that uses the rain to clean itself is a perfect fit.
